Wo Fat - The Conjuring (2014) (Full Album)

Wo Fat - The Conjuring (2014) (Full Album)

Continuing to usher forth their Wendigo spirit, Dallas' Wo Fat have returned with their fifth full-length album, The Conjuring, another stoner psych-doom excursion into places unknown, deadly, and dense with an oft-misunderstood species known as the killer blues.
Recorded at guitarist-lead vocalist Kent Stump's Crystal Clear Sound, the album follows the Wo Fat template of towering doom riffs stirred with the devil-may-care nonchalance of southern blues and classic hard rock fuzz. Similar to their past two efforts, 2011's Noche del Chupcacabra and 2012's The Black Code, The Conjuring wields a five-song set of grooving mythically charged stoner rock. While not metal in the strictest sense, Wo Fat's infatuation for seductive down-tuned riffs, in addition to the sheer sonic weight delivered, makes them a favorite amongst stoner-doom thrill-seekers, and for good reason. The Conjuring hears the boys sizzling from afar with their unmistakable fuzz-realm flair.
Wo Fat, as they do like few others, jam about in a style that's as much jazz and blues-trio influenced as it is about swirling up stoned-out southern metal dust. With Tim Wilson building and leveling grooves off with his rumbling bass lines, Michael Walter swinging hard and smooth and setting the standard for his boys to follow, and Stump just burning away with his ever-enhancing, always-entrancing solo work -- Stump flat-out struts on the closer "Dreamwalker" -- Wo Fat have turned The Conjuring into a record that has little to do at all with being recorded. The music is alive with flame and smoke and things that only come out at night.
With the hot summer months on the near horizon, Wo Fat's latest couldn't have landed at a better time. The Conjuring is the trio at their most confident and awe-inducing, doling out heaviness like heavy ain't no thing. So be careful jamming this album beside a bonfire. There's no telling what may come crawling out of the cinders.
Brand spankin new record from Wo Fat. Enjoy The Conjuring! If you like what you hear, help support the band by purchasing the album here.

Wo Fat - The Black Code (2012) (Full Album)

Wo Fat - The Black Code (2012) (Full Album)

Texas stoner rock trio, Wo Fat bring the serious dose of the fuzz with guitar riffs that would make Tony Iommi proud with the release of their new album, 'The Black Code'. Just like their debut, "The Gathering Dark," this album rocks hard and heavy, Black Sabbath-style with plenty of Hendrixy acid guitar jams, but ventures further out, into trippy, Floydian, psychedelic dimensions in the spheres beyond.
Wo Fat is Kent Stump on vocals, guitar, Tim Wilson on bass and Michael Walter on drums. The trio make haste with the Captain Beyondisms on the opening track, "Lost Highway". This is not cold, sterile, machine-like metal. This is organic, earthy metal full of funk with three songs over the ten minute mark, "Black Code", "The Shard Of Leng" and the juggernaut, "Sleep Of The Black Lotus", making for a record ideal for uninterrupted listening. Taking their inspiration from the heavy 70's greats then kicking it into interstellar overdrive, delivering the goods with the heaviness and sheer weight of Orange Goblin and Kyuss. As any fan of Stoner Rock will tell you, "if it ain't heavy it ain't worth shit". ' The Black Code' qualifies as super heavy, lots of volume, with unforced jamming and full of heavy riffs and deep grooves. It's hard to hold the simplicity of their sound against them when they perform with such earnestness and dedication to what they do. Light up if you have 'em the tune in, turn on, and rock out with Wo Fat. - Highly Recommended

Rumplestiltskin - Make Me Make You (1970)

Rumplestiltskin - Make Me Make You & Rumplestiltskin
Heavy Blues Rock from 1970
If you are not familiar with this band the synopses will give you some idea of the talent that formed to make two albums, 1970 and '71. These are the top drawer of UK session musicians.
Peter Lee Stirling [Peter Charles Greene, aka Daniel Boone] (vocals), Alan Hawkshaw (keyboards), Alan Parker (guitar), Clem Cattini (drums), Herbie Flowers (bass)
Alan Parker, Herbie Flowers, and Alan Hawkshaw also worked as part of Blue Mink for several years, and Hawkshaw wrote music for various TV shows and films. Clem Cattini ended up in one of the variants of Colloseum for a while,
This great band was comprised of some of the best musicians in the UK at the time, although, probably for contractual reasons, they weren't allowed to use their real names. Bassist Herbie Flowers and guitarist Alan Parker were the main characters in this hard rock band, as was vocalist Peter Lee Stirling, who'd been in Hungry Wolf. They released two fairly rare albums in the early seventies and split, with the various members getting involved with the likes of Donovan, Sky, Lou Reed and Marianne Faithfull. Both albums were released on CD by Repertoire Records a number of years ago and are certainly worth checking out.
Rumplestiltskin was created by American producer Shel Talmy, his intent was to create a supergroup from highly respected, seasoned session man (including Clem Cattini and Peter Lee Stirling) to rival the rock monoliths of the day.
A uniquely talented British heavy rock band, Rumplestiltskin was the brainchild of American producer Shel Talmy. It was his idea to form a supergroup that might rival the highly successful outfits that dominated the early Seventies, such as Status Quo and Led Zeppelin.
Instead of picking young, untried rockers, Talmy brought together highly experienced professional session men. Among them was drummer Clem Cattini.
Although Rumplestiltskin wasnt a hit, it was nevertheless a serious project, as can be heard on the eight powerful tracks on their classy album, first released in 1970. The band also featured singer Peter Lee Stirling, who later scored a hit single with Beautiful Sunday under the name of Daniel Boone.
The first album is good bluesy rock with longish organ and guitar solos but nothing particularly progressive about it. Black Magician was released on Bellaphon, the same label as Nektar.
